Illegal parking monitoring

One of the frequent causes of congestion or blockage in urban road traffic is parking in unlicensed places of motor vehicles. In the case of Alba Iulia, with a growing tourism road traffic, such events are increasingly frequent, especially in the area of the tourist attractions, which attract a large number of tourists and, by default, motor vehicles.
Due to legislative and administrative limitations, the local authority cannot allocate sufficient human resources to the activity of tracking and identification of parking deviations in non-permitted places, which may lead to increased production. This type of event and, implicitly, to the increase in unwanted effects arising from such situations.
The implemented solution  monitors vehicle parking in non-permitted places by installing sensors at the level of road infrastructure, which detect the presence of a motor vehicle and send an alarm message to the institutions empowered to take action in these situations.
The sensors were installed in asphalt/paving by drilling, at a depth of 8-20 cm, so that the upper surface of the sensor was at the asphalt mat level, thereby reducing the risk of its destruction through street cleaning activities (especially Winter).
Operating on the basis of a magnetic detection technology, the sensor is recorded in the LoRaWAN network installed by Direct One, member of E-INFRA group, and sends a signal to specialized equipment (gateway) at every occurrence of the event pursued (the presence or lack of a Sensor). Through gateway, the alarm message reaches the cloud, where it generates automatic notification to the authorized personnel (local police, parking inspection, etc.) via a Web page or mobile app.
Once implemented, the solution for monitoring the illegal parking spaces allows the municipality to reduce the congestion of motor traffic in selected areas by identifying irregularly parked vehicles in a very short time and, eventually, by lifting and transporting them to a specially designed location for this purpose. The implementation of such a solution can contribute-after the end of the pilot project-to increase the revenues to the local budget, by applying fines for irregular parking, by the by the authorized staff.
